Inspiring!
I live in NC. We have hot, humid summers. It is awful here. Be thankful for mild summers.
So do you buy salad from the grocery during winter and summer? Or do you grow some inside during the off season? Thx
As a new gardener, I thought I had to start from seeding, which is what I had been doing all along .I’m so glad I came across this video.
Did you make the cold frame bed? Love that idea! Trying to think of a good way to cover my seedlings so the squirrels dont eat them this year.
I did arugala, spinach and butter lettuce in one pot…..bomb salads
Did you make the bed planter ?
Loving your videos! What zone are you?
Lol rosa is the worst it bolts in like any weather
I would think that using that rake to cover up the seeds might actually push seeds all over if you aren’t careful, especially if you are a new gardener. It might be better to cover the rows with some fine soil of sifted compost.
I'm late getting my seeds and plants in their pots. But here in NW AR we had a "spring" rain yesterday with 2" heavy balls of hail pummeling our cars and homes – in early May!
If I'd had my plants potted they would have all been destroyed. I'm not sure how gardening is going to go this year with all this crazy weather…but I'm going to try.
Thanks for the garden bed idea
Just planted our spinach and lettuce using your method. We are excited to see how it works out.
While watching your video I noticed a squirrel in your neighbor's tree. Do you have any problems with squirrels eating your veggies? How do you handle it if you do?
How are the potatoes doing that you planted in the fall. I had about 65 to 70 percent germination. But the ones that germinate did wonderful. They are now huge healthy and blooming. I live in Ohio. we will see how harvest goes.
I cant wait to see an update for how everything is growing! thanks for these videos
So much lettuce! I love it 🙂
Silly question, but have I missed my window for starting seeds outside? I'm in MI also and was on your site making my selections. This will be my first year so I'm all over the place lol.
When you say 3/4 to an inch apart , are you thinning them too that after they germinate ? Or do you just leave the extras in there and let them battle it out on the own
Can you take small videos with like week 2 , week 5 and how you harvest and what it looks like
Lol. I live in north central Ohio and my saying is we have 2 seasons most of the time, summer and winter.
how does your intensity planting differ vs the square foot planting idea? Have you found greater yields then doing strickly lettuce on 4" square?
I got so inspired and excited that I went out yesterday afternoon after watching this and planted several varieties of radishes, lettuce, as well as some spinach and sweet peas. Felt great to do my first gardening of the year!!
Little Gem & Black Seeded Simpson are favorite over Winter lettuce for me. We grow lettuce all winter long under low tunnels.
Early Globe radish is another favorite of mine. The Sparkler doesn't seem to grow well for me.
Have you ever tried Tall Telephone peas? The vertical growing helps save space.
how cool, great work. great information about what/when/how to plant ! cheers from WA state !
Squirel. 😀
nw iowa here, we have the same climate as you. I get all my peas, lettuce, radish and spinach the moment the soil is workable. I pretty sure im the fist planter in my town lol. I got Alaskan peas already popping up today!
Planting in pots, or starting another crop for the East/North side of the house helps extend the lettuce growing season. Lettuce can handle some shade, and if you grow them in pots, you can move them to a part shade area when it gets too hot outside.
Ugh, and now I want more kinds of lettuce. I'm doing this tomorrow after I put my peas and radish in.
Can you grow CULANTRO? I ordered some from amazon because you didn’t have it on your website lol and planted it today. I’d really like to see you’re review on it!!! I tried looking up other videos on it but they were all in Spanish so it’s be really cool if you showed us and put the seeds on your website. Btw I live in NYC and it’s 60s during the day and 40s in the night so not sure if it’s too early for these plants.
I see we still haven't adjusted that exposure.
Just wanted to let you at MIGardener know that the viroflay spinach seed sprouted and grew. I had never heard of it before but all the seeds I planted germinated. My lemongrass also is huge success no other have ever sprouted bu the seed I got from you guys. Back to the spinach it is gorgeous and I absolutely love the flavor profile. The leaves are huge . Anyone reading this , the seeds do so well every cent spent on their seeds is worth it.
Thank you for thinking it out loud. Processing purposes are a big deal in garden care.
I don't have as much space but I'll be growing 7 different leaf salads including iceberg since it's the only kind my daughter can eat. Thank you for the information about using them as a cut come again. Can't wait to see how yours will turn out, I bet beautifully.
Zone 7 here in East Tennessee. Within the last week, we have gone from night temperatures in the twenties to daytime temperatures in the eighties. I think my beets and radishes might be a little confused….
trifecta +
Do you need more varietys?
Are you saving seeds from these to see if any cross or are these just for eating ?
I'm planting Bibb Butterhead lettuce, and Super Red Romaine lettuce, both MIgardener seeds, in my garden this year.
Happy gardening everyone!
Hoping there will be follow up videos on this bed. Would love to see the transformation
Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce, Super Red Romaine Lettuce, Italian Dandelion, Red Russian Kale, Giant Noble Spinach, and shaved carrots make the best salad EVER!!!
This year i decided not to grow the Super Red though, but more BSSimpsonLettuce it's
a bit better for tacos, burgers, BLTs and such imo. I'm attempting to grow some tiny tim
and tommy toe tomatoes, if it doesn't work out in another month i'll start another batch.
Gardening, not just healthy food, healthy soul too!! Have a good'nnn
What's going on with the Irish potatoes you planted in the winter
WILL THE LETTUCE GROW WITHOUT THE COLD FRAME ?
the precipitation available dictated spacing as much as equipment size
planting season for traditional crops is over by mid april in florida. Time for those locations to move on to semi tropical and tropical and perennials.
